'Armed & Fabulous' Event Information and FAQ's

  • All participants will begin the day in Brenham at 8AM.  I will email you information and directions to the classroom location after you are registered and paid.
  • You will be assigned a group led by a female range safety officer, and instruction will begin in the 'classroom' with basic handgun use and safety.

  • Since you are also participating in the LTC course, you will be instructed on, and then shoot, the proficiency portion of the course.  Students will shoot 50 rounds of ammo that is .32 caliber or higher, from 3, 7 and 15 yards.  **YOU DO NOT NEED YOUR OWN FIREARM FOR THE PROFICIENCY.**  Texas Star Shooting has firearms that can be used.  Once you select the gun you are comfortable with, you may purchase 50 rounds of ammo that will be needed to shoot the proficiency demonstration.  Ammo is priced based upon the market at the time of the event (average pricing is $25-$35 for a box of 50 and includes the use of the firearm).  We will handle this at check-in.

  • After lunch, students will continue with the LTC classroom instruction and end the afternoon by taking the written LTC test.  (Do NOT panic at the word 'test'...you will do GREAT!  Texas Star Shooting will more than prepare you!!!)

FAQ

Do I need to already have to have firearms experience?

NO.  The Gun 101 portion of the day is designed for the beginning shooter as well as the 'rusty' shooter.

Do I have to have my own firearm?

No.  Texas Star Shooting has a variety of types and caliber firearms for you to use at the range.

What if I sign up for LTC, but am not comfortable enough to shoot the LTC proficiency demonstration?

Your instructor will help you determine your readiness, and assist you with the 'next steps' should that be the case.

May I bring my own gun and ammo?

YES!  Just make sure that you indicate what type of gun you are bringing on the registration form, and that you buy quality (we prefer SAMMI spec) ammo.  NO RE-LOADS will be allowed at the range!  Your RSO (range safety officer) and instructor will inspect all guns and ammo before allowing them to be used on the range.  This is for everyone's safety!

Should I bring my gun and ammo into the classroom for inspection?

You will be asked about your firearm at check-in and it will be collected at that time.  You must make sure that it is NOT LOADED when you bring it to the RSO at check-in.  Please have it in a case, ammo in its factory box, and UNLOADED when it is turned over for inspection!

Can I invite other friends that I have to this event?

OF COURSE!   Keep in mind, however, that space is strictly limited and there IS a definite cut off number.  The registration will be handled on a FIRST COME, FIRST SREVED basis and that includes a completed registration form as well as receipt of payment.  When Registration numbers have been reached, the registration form will no longer be accessible.

What is the policy on cancellations?

This event is pre-scheduled, catered and the exact numbers of registered guests are used to drive the number of RSO's , etc., that are needed to ensure your safety and the safety of all involved.  There is a cut off date for cancellations for each of the classes and it is not possible to cancel at the last minute and refund your money.  If you MUST cancel, you need to contact Texas Star Shooting as soon as you know, and depending upon the time frame of the cancellation, we will determine what your options are.  In most cases, we will at minimum, allow you to complete the courses at another time with us, or allow you to substitute someone in your place.

Do I need to bring/wear anything special?

Make sure that you bring:
  • eye and ear protection - sunglasses or prescription eyewear is perfectly fine and over the ear/muff style ear protection is preferred.  People ask if I have a recommendation for ear protection and I actually do (though it is not MANDATORY that you have this particular kind) and this is a link to that recommendation on Amazon.com.  They do sell this type ear protection at LOTS of places...I have no interest whatsoever, where you buy them if you are so inclined ;-))

What to wear/range attire:
  • pants or jeans
  • closed toe shoes or boots (tennis shoes are fine)
  • a shirt that is not too loose or open (spent brass is hot and it is not 'fun' when they fall right down your shirt ;-)
  • baseball cap
If it is going to be warm,  you may want to wear cooler clothes and then change into range attire before we leave.  This of course, is optional and a matter of personal comfort.

How long do I have to register/pay?

Registration must be completed AND PAYMENT RECIEVED NO LATER than one week prior to the class!!  ALL STUDENTS NEED TO FILL OUT AN 'ARMED & FABULOUS' REGISTRATION FORM.  There is a link below, to the registration page.  To be considered registered, you must make sure that you fill out a registration form, determine how you will pay, and then follow the steps outlined for your payment method (see below).

How do I pay?

Paying by credit card is an option, and I will contact you directly if this is what you'd like to do (a $5 fee will be added).   However....we prefer mailing a check or using PayPal Friends & Family option.   If you have a PayPal account, you may select the 'Friends and Family' option (the one with NO FEES-this option works only if you have your account tied to a bank account and not a credit card.) paid to vhanak1@gmail.com (the email address of our account).  That is done on the PayPal site or via the Pay Pal app.

You may also pay by check.  Checks must be received ONE WEEK PRIOR TO THE CLASS DATE  and mailed to Vicki Hanak at the address I provide to you.   I will send payment receipts/confirmation to any of you that choose to use this option.
